Painting is not the only way to give a room a new look. Sometimes, it is as simple as adding accessories to the room like a new faucet for the sink or a new towel bar in your bathroom.
In fact, most of these towel bars in your bathroom are often considered as an afterthought. Sometimes they were just added by the contractors who built your home. Design and functionality were not considered as they were put in places the builder thought was convenient, not where you actually need them. So putting in new towel bars is a good idea. It can give your bathroom a fresh look as well as new functionality.
The next thing to do then is shop for new towel bars. Choosing the right bars for your home is not difficult as you have so many designs to choose from. You can find the more common types at your local hardware stores, or if you want the more innovative and attractive ones, you can get it online or from home specialty stores.
Towel bars come in specific sizes, and the most common stock sizes are 7-inch, 12-inch, 18-inch and 24-inch. If you have oversized towels, it is always a good idea to get the next largest size. If your wall area is too small, you may have to cut the bar down a bit.
However, before buying your towel bars, you must first consider the location for each bar. You want the towels to be convenient for you and your guests, so think about the area where you would likely want a towel. The obvious locations are near the sink and shower or tub. These are the two natural places where towels will come in handy. However, if you have limited space, and you need to install a bar above the toilet, mount it high enough so towels will not dangle too low.
Another smart strategy for limited space is to mount towel bars at different heights. This will allow you to hang two towels or more in the same space. This is especially appreciated in a guest bathroom where visitors may need more than one towel.
Now you know where you want to locate your towel bars, remove the old bars before you install the new ones. If they are on a different location, or your new ones are bigger or smaller, be sure that you spackle, sand and paint over the old holes.
