If you have a bath shower mixer tap, you will be able to have a basic, standard tub and still be able to have the option to shower. Bath shower taps are very common nowadays because you do not have to tear down the wall adjacent to your tub to be able to install the whole shower unit. All you have to do it to switch the bath to a shower function by simply pulling the plug that stops the water flow in the faucet and switches it to the shower head. Then you can adjust the temperature of the water to your liking just like how you would do it with a bath. It’s just that simple.
When installing your bath shower tap, you will need the following materials and tools: an adjustable wrench, a screw driver, a pipe wrench, caulk, a bath shower mixer kit and some teflon tape. The first thing you will have to do is remove your old faucets. Begin this process by turning off the water in the bathtub. In case you have no separate stopcock for these, make sure to turn off the main water source in your house first. Then let the faucet run until all the water is removed from the pipes. Take out the side of the tub so that you can remove the old faucets. Make use of a pipe wrench to do this. Loosen the nuts on both the hot and cold water pipes. Then with a screwdriver, loosen the caulking around the faucets. After doing this, you can slowly pull the faucets loose. Set them aside for disposal later.
Secondly, you will need to do some cleaning. Before putting in your new bath and shower taps, you should thoroughly clean the bathtub first to remove any old caulking. Make sure that the new faucets will be installed evenly and cleanly. After putting the new faucets in, apply the Teflon tape to the threads on the faucet. This is where they will be attaching to the water pipes. The tape will give a firmer and more watertight seal. After doing this, place a small amount of caulk on the base of the bath and shower taps before putting them firmly into place. This will double the watertight seal and will make sure no excess water will drip from any crevice.
Next, tighten the nuts onto the threads with the taps and secure them firmly. Make sure to avoid over tightening it so you will still be able to remove them when you want to replace them in the future. Afterwards, you will need to add the shower part of the unit. The shower head and its stand can be attached to the wall. You will find a metal hose coming from the shower which ends with a nut. Attach this to the bath and shower tap with Teflon tape and a wrench.
Now that you are done with the installation, turn the water back on and test for any leaks before putting the side of the bathtub back into place. If there are no leaks, you have successfully installed your new bath shower mixer tap.
